Sturdevant House—Sheriff Sale

In April, the historic Ira Sturdevant home in Waverly was sold at a sheriff sale. Rick and Kathy Sturdevant bought the landmark home and turned it over to preservationists. Rick’s great-great-grandfather, a veteran of the 1812 war, built the house in 1856 before Waverly’s incoporation two years later.

Historians Reclaim Family Legacy

Historians Rick and Katherine Sturdevant survey the flood damage the Waverly house of Rick’s great-great-great-grandfather, Ira, sustained during the record flood of 2008. The couple plan to save the house from a sheriff’s sale and turn in into a center for the study of local history. Rick remembers being in the house when he was about 10.
